Ghana needs peace during run-off elections – Mahama

Gambaga (NR), Dec. 25, GNA – Mr. John Dramani Mahama, NDC Vice Presidential Candidate on Thursday, wishing Ghanaians Merry Christmas and a Prosperous

New Year said the greatest price that they could give to the nation was peace and unity in the Sunday’s run-off. He said; “As the country goes in a run-off election on December 28 every Ghanaian should resolve that there is need for the country to be violence free so that Ghana’s democracy could go higher.” Mr. Mahama, who was speaking at whistle stop rallies at Nanton, Gambaga, Nalerigu and their surrounding villages asked the people to obey the electoral laws of the country by not doing anything to mar the elections.

He said; “As much as all of us appreciate the need for peace without which there can be no development it is necessary all officials engaged in the electoral process will rise up to the occasion so that Ghana has a free and fair elections.”

“It is those who would attempt to cheat in the electoral process that will be doing irreparable harm to the country,” he said. Mr. Mahama said he was the first to admit that as a northerner, what was important was to recognize that poverty in the area should be eradicated and development brought there as the NDC has in its manifesto.

He asked the people to vote massively for Professor John Evans Atta Mills, NDC Presidential Candidate to enable it transform the nation into a modern development area. Mr. Haruna Iddrisu, National Youth Organiser of the party and MP for Tamale South thanked the people for voting peacefully for the NDC in Dec. 7, elections and asked them to repeat the same for the party to bring Professor Atta Mills to power. 25 Dec. 08
