Ghana needs only 150 MPs – Fritz Baffour

Member of Parliament for Ablekuma South Fritz Baffour has said Ghana requires only 150 legislators to make laws for the land.

According to him, the current 275 membership of the House is too high for a country such as Ghana.

In 2012, the Electoral Commission increased the number of seats in the House from 230 to 275, adding 21 more seats.

In spite of the concerns over the current number, policy think tank, Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA), is pushing for the number to be lifted to 400 in order to make room for the various interest groups in the country.

Speaking to Nii Arday Clegg on the Morning Starr Tuesday, the Ablekuma South MP said a few number can do a better job for the country.

“I think the current 275 MPs in parliament is too much for a country like Ghana. In other areas, a smaller number has proven to be more effective. I think the number should be reduced to say, 150 and that will be fine”.
