Ghana bourse at another 1999 low, volume recovers

ACCRA, Sept 29 (Reuters) – The Ghana Stock Exchange (GSE) index was at a new 1999 low on Wednesday for the fifth consecutive session, the official market report showed.

The all-share index closed at 759.93, a loss of just 0.43 point, leaving it down 12.44 percent on the year. In the previous session on Monday, it shed 0.45 point to 760.36.

Volume increased to 917,100 shares, worth 170.68 million cedis ($62,066), up from 20,400 shares, worth just 4.99 million cedis ($1,764) in the previous session.

Mechanical Lloyd was the most active stock for the third session in a row, trading 900,200 shares at an unchanged price of 170 cedis. Dealers had no explanation for the activity.

Unilever one of just three losers, moved down 10 cedis to 1,890 and traded 300 shares.

The two others were Enterprise Insurance and Aluworks, which dropped five to 1,880 cedis and one cedi to 2,499 respectively in minimal volume.
