Fijai (W/R) Jan. 26 -GNA – Mrs. Sylvia Boye, Chairman of the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) said the uncompleted assembly hall of the Fijai Secondary School would be completed in 2007.
She said the project is estimated at over three billion cedis and would enable the school to have a meeting place and for other entertainment and recreational activities.
Mrs Boye said these at the presentation of a 500 million cedis 58-seater bus from the GETFUND to the school at Fijai on Wednesday. She cautioned that the bus should not be used to purchase foodstuffs, firewood and other items that could reduce the lifespan of the bus.
She advised the management of the school to give special tickets to the students and funds from such tickets should be used for regular maintenance and for fuel.
Mrs Boye noted that students should be conveyed at vantage points before and after school to enable the management and students to benefit from the bus.
Mr. James Hamilton Rhule, Headmaster of Fijai said the school, which was established in 1952 as a day school now has a population of 1,247 students but does not have an assembly hall.
“We have for several years held all our assembly and other school gatherings outside in the sun,” he stressed.
Mr. Rhule said though the Mr. Philip Kwesi Nkrumah, the Shama Ahanta East Metropolitan Assembly Chief Executive and Nana Kobina Nketsiah, Omanhene of Essikadu made arrangement for some books for them from the United States of America, the books could be displayed in the library due to its small size.
He commended the management of GETFUND, the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) and other individuals for their immense support for the school.
