Free Tsikata in the spirit of reconciliation – Afreh

Kumasi, Aug. 28, GNA – A veteran politician in Kumasi, Opanin Kwame Afreh, has appealed to the government to pardon Mr. Tsatsu Tsikata, former boss of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) and also drop all charges pending in court against former first lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings in the interest of peace and reconciliation.

This, he noted, would give real meaning to the process of reconciliation the President set in motion on assumption of office. In a statement issued in Kumasi on Wednesday, Opanin Afreh said such a gesture would also help doused tension in the run-up to the general elections in December.

He said the government should learn from the traditional rulers and accept blames and shortcomings of predecessors and take corrective measures instead of being vindictive.

“It is time the government adopted a more humane way of dealing with corruption instead of being vindictive”, he stated. He said, in the same vein that the President pardoned Mr Dan Abodakpi, MP for Keta, it would not be out of place if he used his prerogative powers to address the two cases involving Nana Konadu and Tsatsu Tsikata.
