Four in Court for stealing Laptop computer and other items

Asamankese, June 6, GNA- Four persons have appeared before the Asamankese Circuit Court, in connection with the theft of personal effect valued at 2,482 Ghana cedis. The plea of Kwabena Atta; Cobbler, Eric Owiredu; drinking bar operator and James Frempong and Amma Afidepe unemployed, was not taken and are remanded into police custody to reappear on June 15. The accused persons are charged with unlawful entry, stealing, dishonestly receiving and abetment of crime. Police Chief Inspector Kate Ogyiri, prosecuting, told the court that at about 2000 hours on May 18, the complainant, Benjamin Amankwa, returned from work to find that thieves have broken into his room and made away with a number of items including a laptop computer, a DVD set, shoes, clothing and watches.

His own investigations led to the arrest of Atta, who denied involvement but named two persons to be responsible. Inspector Ogyiri said Owiredu, Frempong and Afidepe were arrested on May 26. He said two other suspects who are on the run are being pursued by the police.
