Accra, Dec. 3, GNA – Four parliamentary candidates who filed to contest Tuesday’s parliamentary election have pulled out of the race leaving a total of 950 candidates, the Electoral Commission told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on Friday.
Mr. Kofi Arhin, Director of Elections, said the four who have withdrawn have officially informed the Commission. He said three of them were independent candidates while the fourth filed on the ticket of the Democratic People’s Party (DPP).
He said Mr. Appiah Mensah, independent candidate for Ajumako Enyam withdrew because of a court case, while Mr Abdulai Freeman, DPP candidate for Jaman North, pulled out because of “circumstances beyond his control.” Mr. Raymond Kwame Akufo and Mr. Salifu Alaru, both independent candidates for Upper West Akim, did not give the EC any reason for dropping out.
This leaves a total of 108 independent candidates officially in the race and 950 candidates
