Foundation congratulates Mills on his 100 days in office

Kumasi, April 18, GNA – The Atta Mills Foundation, a pro-democracy Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), has appealed to Ghanaians to be patient and tolerant of the President Mills administration as he seeks to advance Ghana’s political and socio-economic development for the benefit of the citizenry. “In spite of the fact that the President’s assumption of office was delayed by the second round of the general elections, it is remarkable that his 100 days in office had seen smooth take-off in most sectors of the economy”, it explained.

This was contained in a statement signed by Togbui Mawufeame Fugah, Life Patron of the Foundation, and issued in Kumasi on Saturday to mark the 100 days of President Mills in office. It pointed out that efficient nation-building hinged on unity, peace and tolerance, adding that, in those respects the President had done well to foster harmony among the various social and ethnic groups with the appointments of all categories of people into government. The statement praised the NDC government particularly for recognizing the potentials of the youth and as such integrating them into government.

It further expressed satisfaction with the manner in which President Mills had given women various ministerial positions and expressed the hope that the government will strive to embark on a major gender policy and representation reforms to advance the cause of women at all levels of the society and in decision-making. On sanitation, the Foundation called for more pragmatic approach to reducing filth for a clean environment to curtail malaria and other filth-related diseases. It reminded Ghanaians that; “Rome was not built in a day” and that it behoves on the people to be supportive of the government in upholding rule of law, accountability, transparency and good governance to achieve Ghana’s development goals. 18 April 09
