Sekyedumase (Ash), Nov. 27, GNA- Mr Peter Boakye-Ansah, former Member of Parliament (MP) and District Secretary of the Ejura-Sekyedumase district has presented books and sports items estimated at 6.5 million cedis to a primary school named after him and the Sekyedumase health centre.
School stationery including 1,000 exercise books and cardboards, as well as a sports equipment made up of jerseys, marching drums, footballs, volley net, table tennis net and a set of balls, all valued at five million cedis went to the Boakye-Ansah Primary School while a wheel chair costing 1.5 million cedis was presented to Sekyedumase health centre.
Presenting the items on Wednesday, Mr Boakye-Ansah said the donation was his widow’s mite to supplement government’s efforts to improve the standard of education and health delivery system in the district.
The former MP and one-time District Secretary, who three years ago, presented 120 dual desks and footballs to the school, expressed the hope that the school authorities and the health centre would take good care of the items and also put them at the disposal of the children and patients. He called on stakeholders, especially parents, to help promote education in the country saying, any society that neglects education which is the bedrock of development, sacrifices its future”.
Mr Andrews Kofi Britwum, Ashanti Regional Director of Education commended the donor and stressed the need for others to emulate him.
He urged the people to participate actively in the development of schools in the area by visiting them and interacting with the teachers so that they also do their best to help the children.
The Regional Director advised the teachers to refrain from lateness, absenteeism and drunkenness and work to support the government to raise the standard of education in the country.
Mr Henry Manu-Goode, Headteacher of the school, appealed to chiefs of the town to help demarcate the boundary of the school to avoid encroachment by developers.
He also called for the construction of additional two semi-detached quarters for teachers in the school.
Nana Acquaah Brobbey, Ankobeahene of Sekyedumase called for the establishment of a community library for the area.
