Pusiga (U/E), Dec. 05, GNA – Two tutors of the Gbewaa Training College at Pusiga, near Bawku, had their personal effects worth over 50 million cedis destroyed in a fire that engulfed their two semi-detached apartments on Monday.

At the time of the fire one of the tutors was said to be teaching whilst the other, who had been transferred, was reported to have traveled to seek accommodation at his new station in the Upper West Region.

Briefly the Ghana News Agency Mr. Mohammed Ibrahim, one of the victims, said he was in the classroom when he heard the students shouting that a building was on fire.

Mr Ibrahim said the fire started in the bedroom of his colleague and it spread over to his side of the apartment but the timely intervention of the students and their boldness enabled them to pick some few items from his sitting room.

Mr Ibrahim said the students battled the fire till the arrival of the Fire Service.

The Bawku Fire Officer, Mr. John Atubiga, said their investigations were on-going to determine the cause of the fire but did not rule out electrical fault.

The Vice-Principal of the college, Mr. Mohammed Anass, appealed to philanthropists and other organizations to assist the victims. He also appealed for assistance to renovate the burnt buildings in order to reduce accommodation problems faced by tutors in the college.
