President John Mahama has advised newly sworn in ministers to fast track government business and contracts as they head to their respective ministries.
According to him, the youth of the country are in a hurry to reap the benefits of the policies being implemented by the government and cannot be held down by unnecessary administrative bottlenecks.
Speaking at the Flagstaff House during the swearing in ceremony Friday, the President advised the ministers not to allow themselves to be caught in needless bureaucracies.
“Ghana is a nation in a hurry; we have a fast growing population. There are young people coming out of school and they expect the government to put in place that will make the lives better and so we don’t have the luxury of time. Unfortunately in this country bureaucracy has become an industry; things that can be done immediately often take months and so from the inception of a government program until the time that it is implemented is absolutely unacceptable,” Mr. Mahama stated.
He continued: “And one of the things that you have to do as heads of your respective tender committees is to make sure that these processes are done in a much faster way so that the benefits of all these programs that we are implementing for the people are made available to them as fast as possible,” he said.
The newly sworn in ministers include former Chief of Staff Prosper Bani, who is heading for the Interior Ministry and Nii Lantey Vanderpuije who has been moved from Local Government to the Sports ministry.
Others are MP for Bongo, Albert Abongo, who is heading to the Upper East region as minister, Kwaku Ricketts Hagan, Central region, Mavis Ama Frimpong, Eastern region, Abdallah Abubakari and John Alexander Ackon, Ashanti region.
