Farmers advised to take interest in diversification

Sunyani, (Brong Ahafo) 11 March ’99,

The District Chief Executive of Sunyani, Mr Kwadwo Nyamekye-Marfo, has urged farmers to take interest in agricultural diversification programmes as it is the surest way of generating more revenue for the country. It would also help to boost the production of non-traditional export crops like cashew, mushroom and sunflower, he said. At a seminar organised by Ghana Sunflower Association for 130 of its members at Sunyani to educate them on the cultivation and marketing of the crop, Mr Nyamekye-Marfo said the government is committed to assisting and encouraging hardworking farmers. The DCE therefore called on the youth to take to farming to raise their standard of living. He appealed to chiefs and landowners to release land to farmers as it is the basic factor of production. The association has more than 3,000 registered members including government workers and businessmen.
