Farmer chops off left hand of colleague farmer

Nkawie (Ash), July 7, GNA – An Nkawie Circuit Court has remanded a 28-year-old farmer at Donkoto who is on trial for chopping off the left hand of a colleague farmer.

The plea of Kwabena Asumadu was not taken and he would re-appear on July 18.

Police Detective Sergeant Jonas Adjei told the court presided over by Justice Noble Nkrumah that both the accused and the victim, Akwasi Asiedu, are farmers at Donkoto.

On May 26, Asumadu went to his cocoa farm together with one Richard Addai and saw the victim with four others cracking cocoa pods he had harvested the previous day.

There ensued a confrontation, during which, Asiedu was alleged to have shot at the accused with his gun but missed him.

Asumadu overpowered the victim and chopped off his left hand with a machete.
