Families advised to check background of home employees

The Greater Accra Regional Command of the Ghana Police Service has revealed that recent spate of armed robbery has been masterminded by “insiders” like cooks, babysitters, drivers, caretakers and gardeners.

It is, therefore, advising the public to conduct thorough background checks on persons employed to work in households.

Speaking upon the arrest of a 25-year-old househelp in Accra, Regional Commander Christian Tetteh Yohuno said: “Most robbery operations are often committed with the assistance of insiders especially cooks, babysitters, drivers, caretakers, gardeners etc.”

The Commissioner of Police advised that conversations at home in the presence of these “insiders” should be measured.

“Attention must also be drawn to phone conversations which may sometimes leave vital information on business finances if care is not taken especially as we go round with our drivers.”

The 25-year-old had robbed his employer of thousands of cedis and other foreign currencies.

He had been in complicit with Bright Asamoah and Paul Afari. A third man, Christian Kwame Anyidoho, has also been arrested for aiding the three to Nigeria after the robbery.
