An appeal has been made to the Kumasi Metropolitan Authority, to act quickly to replace poorly fabricated metal grids, covering drains in parts of the metropolis.
The residents said lack of the facilities had become a major source of danger to pedestrians.
The appeal was made in the wake of the trapping of a third year student of the Dwamena Akenten Senior High School in one of the grids at Asafo near the Labour Office.
For more than two hours, Gideon Offei, had his left leg firmly stuck in the metal grating as his colleagues and passersby tried desperately to free him.
He was finally rescued with bruises and a swollen leg by personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service.
Offei was returning from the Baba Yara Sports Stadium where his school had taken part in the on-going annual inter-colleges games, when he slipped and got stuck in the metal grid.
A huge crowd that gathered at the scene could not hide their anger and frustration at the bad job done by those who have responsibility for covering drains in the metropolis.
Some of them claimed to have had similar experience and demanded that the situation is corrected to prevent further accidents and injury to pedestrians.
Divisional Officer III Robert Atta Kumi, Officer in-charge of the Adum Fire Station, told the Ghana News Agency that the injury suffered by the student was not critical.
