Extend Police patrols to Bontrase – Assemblyman

Agona Bontrase (C/R), July 16, GNA – Mr Kweku Nutogo, Assemblyman for Bontrase Electoral Area, has appealed to the Agona District Security Council (DISEC) to extend Police patrols to the area to protect life and property.

Speaking to the GNA in an interview at Bontrase, Mr Nutogo said grave looters had invaded the town and desecrated a 135 year-old grave of the late Nana Kwao Tetteh, founder of the town. He said inhabitants of the community who are predominantly farmers are living in fear due to the activities of the grave looters. The Assemblyman said the grave looters made away with jewels and other items, which were used to bury the Chief and appealed to the Agona Swedru District Police Command to extend their operations to the area to protect life and property.

He urged the people to revive their Neighbourhood Watch Dog Committees to assist the Police in fighting crime in the area. Mr Nutogo appealed to the Agona District Assembly and the MP for Agona East to assist the community to construct a modern toilet. He also appealed for help to construct two-foot-bridges over streams in the area, adding that, they were washed away during the heavy rains.

He noted that children risk crossing the streams to attend school at Awutu Akrabong and Mfafo and expressed regrets that Agona Akromah had no school block.

The Assembly man said that about 200 children attend school under trees and stated that any time the weather looked cloudy classes had to be terminated for the children to run to their houses. Mr Nutogo appealed to the Non-governmental organisations and other to go to their aid to construct a classroom block. 16 July 05
