Executive of GPC congratulates Information Minister for dissolving board

Accra, June 3, GNA – The National Executive Council of the Ghana Pentecostal Council (GPC) on Thursday congratulated the Minister of Information, Mr John Tia Akologu, for dissolving the Ghana Cinematography Board.

A statement in Accra signed by Apostle John Annan Adotey, the Presid ent said the GPC, heads and members of the over 200 Christian denominations under the Council “congratulate you on your wise and timely decision to dissolve the Ghana Cinematography Board of Control (Previewing Board)”. It said the “Council fully agrees and affirms your declaration of la ck of satisfaction with the performance of the old Board”. According to the statement, the GPC had in a communiqu=E9 issued in February this year, expressed concern with the indecency portrayed in fil ms being showed on the free-to-air channels, sometimes even during family viewing times.

“This situation, if allowed to continue, will surely speed up the erosion of our spiritual, national, traditional and moral values which serves as the vanguard of any nation.” The Council suggested that in the reconstitution of the Board, the Minister should include stakeholders such as the National House of Chiefs , the main religious bodies in the country as well as identifiable groups w ho had direct interest in preserving the spiritual, cultural, moral and soci al values of the nation. “We pledge to stand by you in prayer to ensure that whatever plans y ou have to prevent the erosion of our much cherished values would come to fruition in the face of the influx of foreign and indecent viewing materials.”
