Ex-con jailed for attack on herbalist

The Half Assini Magistrate Court in the Western Region has sentenced a 22-year-old motor mechanic and an ex-convict, Tebewo Kwasi, to 24 months imprisonment with hard labour.

He pleaded guilty to three counts of assault, causing unlawful damage and threat of harm.

Prosecuting, Police Detective Chief Inspector Paul Anaman told the court presided over by Mr. Hans Kofi Kpogo that the complainant, Madam Ruth Cudjoe, a herbalist, is a tenant of the accused’s mother and are all living in the same house at Famenye.

Detective Inspector Anaman said for some time the accused had been acusing Madam Cudjoe of having killed her own late husband and threatened to throw her out.

The prosecutor said on Saturday, February 2, this year at about 1700 hours, the accused attempted to remove the keys from the complainant’s door but he was confronted by the complainant.

Detective Inspector Anaman said a struggle ensued between the two and in the process the complainant’s dress was destroyed by the accused. The accused again picked up a shovel and threatened to harm the complainant.

Madam Cudjoe reported the matter to the Mpataba Police and the accused was arrested and arraigned before court.
