eSyllabus awards scholarship to pupils

eSyllabus for Africa, a non-governmental organization, has selected two pupils from basic schools in the Tamale Metropolis to benefit from a scholarship scheme that covers their senior high school and university level education.

The two pupils are Miss Yakubu Baraka from Evangelical Presbyterian (EP) Junior High School (JHS) and Master Abaare Elias from Sakasaka Presbyterian JHS.

They were selected following their distinguished performance during an inter-school quiz competition organized by eSyllabus for Africa for four basic schools in the Tamale Metropolis.

At the end of the competition, which centred on various sectors of society, including civic and religious affairs, Sakasaka Presbyterian JHS, came tops, followed by EP JHS. Tamale

Presbyterian JHS placed third and Bulpela Anglican JHS was fourth. The participating schools were awarded books and pens to enhance teaching and learning.

The annual competition, amongst others aimed at helping to improve standards of education within the metropolis.

Mr Crispin Wura-Sey Ziekah, the Northern Ghana Director of eSyllabus for Africa, who spoke after the competition in Tamale, said his outfit instituted the quiz competition with the objective to actively engage pupils and teachers in activities that would effectively improve education and performance both at individual and institutional levels.

Mr Ziekah underscored the importance of education in the socio-economic development of the country and urged all to help to educate the children.

Alhaji Abdul-Rahman Mohammed Saani, the Tamale Metropolitan Director of Education, described the quiz competition as a sure way of supporting quality education in the Metropolis.

Alhaji Mohammed Saani said the initiative would make teachers give of their best in schools and get pupils reading most of the time, which was necessary to raise the standard of education in the Metropolis.
