Employers advised to educate employees on security issues

Nungua, Nov. 15, GNA — Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Ken Yeboah, Deputy Director General of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service has advised employers to educate their employees on security issues to ensure their protection from disaster and leakage of vital information.

ACP Yeboah said every employee must be trained to be security conscious to enable them to protect themselves and their establishments from criminals.

He gave the advice at Nungua on Thursday during a day’s seminar for 30 Front Desk Executives and Secretaries of establishments in the Tema Metropolis. The seminar was organized by the Tema Regional Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

ACP Yeboah urged companies to install security gadgets such as alarms at their premises to ensure the safety of their employees and customers. He further said being security conscious also involved preventing the leakage of information to unauthorized people. Mr Kofi Kukubor, Managing Consultant of BCC Limited in a presentation on information management entreated employees, especially secretaries and front desk officers to protect the confidentiality, integrity and availability of company information as it could lead to loss of profits and law suits, among others. He said information management must be taken seriously by public institutions as the access to information by criminals could destabilize the country’s security and economy. Madam Victoria Hajar, Chairperson of the Tema Chamber said her outfit recognized that due to lack of proper training in information management, secretaries and other employees unconsciously expose their organization’s vital information.
