Electronic voting will prevent future electoral challenges – PPP

The Progressive People’s Party, PPP, has called for the introduction of an electronic form of voting as option to forestall any future challenges with electoral results.

The PPP, which has joined the largest opposition party, the New Patriotic Party (NPP), in their objection to the results of the presidential elections, hold the view that a lot of anomalies were recorded in the process.

The PPP’s Director of Operations, Nana Ofori Owusu speaking on Citi Fm’s News Analysis Program, The Big Issue said “the PPP is talking about reforms in the electoral process. The study that we [PPP] have done with Brazil and Mexico, where they are in full electronic voting, suggest that we as a nation need to move to that position immediately.”

According to Mr. Ofori Owusu this will give citizens confidence in fair, transparent and strong processes with functioning institutions to meet the challenges of the electoral process.

“We are saying that we should move to full electronic voting immediately. We should have international and local partnership for the knowledge transfer for us to be able to grow our own people to be able to take care of this process.”
