Electrical Contractors make proposals to stop electrical fire out-breaks

Accra, Feb. 26, GNA – The Ghana Electrical Contractors Association has made some proposals to stem the incidence of electrical fire out-breaks in the country. These include seminars to educate both private and commercial maintenance managers together with occupants of government buildings.

The seminar would focus on the causes of electrical fire out-breaks and their prevention to create an opportunity for occupants to ask relevant questions which answers would help deepen their understanding of the operation and maintenance of electrical installations. The proposals were contained in a statement issued in Accra and signed by Mr. J.B. Walker, National President of the association.

The association expressed concern about the outcome of the investigations into the fire out-breaks at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. It said it was established by the investigative committee that the cause was an electrical fault and had come out with recommendations on how to prevent similar out-breaks on public property in the country.

“The cause of the fire outbreak as reported which resulted in the loss of millions of cedis to the State can happen to other government and private properties in the country, if proper steps are not taken to prevent future events,” it added.

The statement said the association would position itself to provide maintenance and engineering audits on all electrical installations of government and private properties within each region of Ghana, while further educating the public and government organizations on energy conservation.

“The lessons learnt from the above proposals would form the basis of regulations and standards to be recommended to government for consideration in the management of public, commercial and residential electrical installations in the country, “the statement said.

The association expressed the hope hope that support from the government towards the implementation of the proposals would help to consider reduce electrical fire out-breaks in the country and avoid waste of public funds.
