Educationist urges the Private sector to support STME Clinics

Suhum, Sept. 8, GNA – Miss Augustina Aboagye, Suhum-Kraboa-Coaltar District Director of Education, on Wednesday appealed to the private sector, especially industries and financial institutions, to support the Government’s efforts to promote science education.

She said the realization that there could not be any meaningful development in the country without huge investments in science, technology and mathematics, should encourage the private sector potential beneficiaries to support such efforts.

Miss Aboagye made the appeal in a speech read on her behalf at the on-going Science, Technology and Mathematics (STM) Clinic for basic school students at Suhum-Kraboa-Coaltar district at Suhum.

She said the country could benefit from increased investments in science and technology, therefore, the private sector should support the Government’s efforts in view of the huge financial burden on education. Miss Aboagye commended the institution of the clinic which began about 18 years ago as a bold step to close the gender gap in the field of sciences, adding: “the success of the policy is a living testimony that the decision is helping to develop the human resource for national development.” Mr Michael Mensah, District Chief Executive was optimistic the clinic would serve as an impetus for an industrial development in the country. He pledged the assembly’s support to help sustain the programme and improve on educational facilities in the district. 08 Sept.05
