Public Relations Officer of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) William Boateng has admitted the inability of the Company to follow its schedule on the nationwide loadshedding exercise, adducing that the energy deficit of the country has worsened between the period it issued the schedule and now.
The deficit is currently at 570 megawatts (MW) from a previous 250 MW.
“That means that we are unable to follow the loadshedding especially when we exceed the deficit we used in drawing the timetable,” Mr Boateng said.
He was speaking to TV3’s Sandra Amarquaye in an interview on Tuesday, October 14.
He stated, however, that so far as they have not withdrawn the schedule, “we will work very hard to follow the timetable.
“But we are saying that we are handicapped,” he stressed.
He said the Company will soon engage the various stakeholders in the sector over the way forward.
“We will then see the outlook and if there is the need for us to come out and then revise anything, we will let our customers know.”
Most of the country’s thermal plants are undergoing maintenance works while Nigeria is also reported to have reduced the quantity of gas supplied.
