‘EC scheming to impose Mahama on Ghanaians’

Presiding Bishop of the Dzorwulu Circuit of the Methodist Church of Ghana says the posture adopted the Chairperson of the Electoral commission, Charlotte Osei and her team, has convinced him that there is a scheme to impose President John Mahama on Ghanaians after the November 7 polls.

Rt. Rev Stephen Richard Bosomtwe-Ayensu underscored the need for electorates to choose their leaders, as that is the guiding principle of every democracy. His comments follow the formation of the controversial Steering Committee set up by the EC to manage the general elections later this year.

Bishop Ayensu said it is not illegal for the EC to set up such committee ahead of the elections, but advised that the Commission must consult with the Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) and other stakeholders.

“The EC chair cannot appoint the president for the people but the people must rather choose their leader of choice” he said.

Bishop Bosomtwe-Ayensu spoke with Adom News, at the Annual Circuit Camp Meeting of the Dzorwulu Circuit of the Methodist Church Ghana held under the theme “One Thing I Know” in Accra on Sunday.

“The current posture of the EC seems to portray that the commission wants to impose the sitting President on us,” he emphasised.

The outspoken Bishop warned the EC to desist from any scheme to favour President Mahama in the polls.

He urges the EC to be more transparent and accountable to the people to quell suspicision among other stakeholders of the November polls. He says transparency by the EC will ensure peace and stability in the country.
