Former National Youth Organizer of the People’s National Convention (PNC) who sued the Electoral Commission (EC) over the credibility of the voters’ register, Abu Ramadan says he suspects the EC is not reminding itself of the limited time to the crucial polls and may not even be involved in a count down to the 2016 elections.
“We have no time to spare, I think the commission is not engaging itself in the count down to remind itself of the number of days left for the elections,” he added, urging the media to support the exercise so it could prompt the EC to be advised on the unnecessary delays.
Although the Election Management Body has assured that it will be able to meet the November deadline for the general polls, there are fears that any delay from now will thwart the country’s effort in holding its November 7 polls as planned by the EC.
There is not much seen on the electoral front because the disputes over the 2012 voter register has almost ground activities to a halt as parties to the case- Abu Ramadan vrs the EC are currently contending the terms of the Supreme court May, 5 ruling.
However, the Christian Council of Ghana and the Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council have both waded into the matter asking the EC to implement the Supreme Court’s ruling on the voter’s register.
The two bodies argued considering the limited months the nation has to the November 2016 polls, the EC needed to expedite action to ensure the electoral register is cleaned as directed by the Apex court.
Commenting on the intervention of the various christian groups on Anopa Kasapa on Kasapa 102.5 FM Tuesday, Abu Ramadan welcome the position of the group, adding that the move coincides with the time for it to go back to court to file a fresh suit against the EC.
“I’m meeting with my Lawyers to finalise everything and sign my portion of the suit today so it can pave the way for them go back to court again,” he said.
