E. T. Mensah In Trouble Again

Mr Enoch Teye Mensah, National Democratic Congress (NDC) top gun and political schemer, whom newsmen handed over for public censure in the court of public opinion a few weeks ago, is in deeper trouble.

E.T. Mensah may be the darling of his constituency and may be earning the title ?Nkosuohene? very soon from his constituency, including even NPP elements. Investigations, however, reveal that the former minister for Youth and Sports is suffering hiccups in his bid to be listed among the few to enter Ghana?s Parliament for the third time. The fallout from his Teshie ?obudan? speech appears to be damaging the man even more.

While this ripple may not have been his intention while cautioning Teshie voters to reject the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and return his NDC to power in 2004, newsmen on Saturday?s independent sources in the area especially Mr Sam Carboo, whom most constituents are falling in love with.

When candidates vying for the Member of Parliament (MP) slot for Prampam therefore met last Saturday at Ningo-Prampram to sell themselves and prove their mettle in terms of popularity and ability, the programme went beyond an NPP activity as virtually the whole constituency took interest in it. If E.T. must go, who best could articulate the concerns of the people in Parliament? This was the general question. That the spirit and soul of the constituency was behind Sam Carboo, reflected in the fervour and loyalty with which the Electoral College played out its role to get Sam elected. E.T. is in trouble indeed.

Mr Carboo, an Accountant and Businessman, polled 39 votes against the other contestants, Mr Larry Djangmah, Mr Stephen Kabutey Nartey and Mr Francis Teye who polled 15, 1, and 0 respectively. Mr Carboo is the son of the late E.J. Carboo, an UP stalwart who lived at Nsawam during the ?Ga Shifimo Kpee? days. In his time, E.J. Carboo hosted such illustrious sons of the land as S.D. Dombo, Edward Akufo-Addo, Attoh Okine, Attoh Quarshie, Victor Owusu, Modesto Apaloo, S.G. Antoh etc at his residence and was also a founding member of the erstwhile Progress Party.
