The Duayeden Local Authority Junior Secondary School, in the Akwapim South District of the Eastern Region, has scored a zero per cent pass rate in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in each of the last three years.
These results have compelled the District Education Officer to transfer almost all the teachers out of the school and to replace them with new teachers in the hope of improving the results.
This was disclosed by the school?s headmaster, Mr Raphael Sowah, in an interview with journalists after the inauguration of a ?150 million Early Childhood Development Centre.
The centre was built for the school by Rotary Club of Accra as part of Rotary?s programme of assistance to disadvantaged communities.
Mr. Sowah explained that things were very difficult for the school, since most of the teachers were not resident in the town.
?Some of the teachers live as far away as Nsawam and Adeiso, and have to struggle to find transportation early in the morning to get to work at Duayeden?, he explained.
Mr. Sowah added that, ?the teachers cannot be blamed for their pupils? poor performance, since they normally get to school late and tired.?
