Driver in court for assaulting ex-girlfriend

A Cape Coast Magistrate Court on Friday granted Bernard Mensah a driver GH¢250.00 bail with a surety for allegedly assaulting his ex-girlfriend at Ekumfi-Assaafa near Cape Coast.

Mensah who resides at Ashaley- Botwe a suburb of Accra pleaded not guilty and would reappear on Friday February 15.

Prosecuting, Police Inspector Charles Effah told the court presided over by Ms Mercy Adei Kotei that Ms Cynthia Amoah a seamstress who lives at Ekumfi-Assaafa near Cape Coast is an ex-girlfriend of Mensah and had two children with him during the relationship.

He said Mensah is making efforts to take custody of the children but Ms Amoah is refusing to co-operate with him on the grounds that he is has neglected his responsibilities towards the children.

Inspector Effah said at about 0800 hours on January 13, Mensah demanded the release of the children to him but Ms Amoah refused and this infuriated the accused person who assaulted the complainant in the process.

He said a report was lodged at the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit of the Ghana Police Service in Cape Coast, and a medical form was issued to the complainant for treatment.

Inspector Effah said Mensah was arrested but he denied the offence.
