Driver and farmer arrested with Indian hemp

Sunyani, Oct. 2, GNA – The Police have arrested two men, who were carting compressed substance suspected to be Indian Hemp into a tipper truck at Kyingakrom near New Longoro in Wenchi.

The suspects are Daniel Duodu, 31, driver of the tipper truck and Yerefa Souno, alias Rasta, a 25-year-old farmer.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Robert Ayalingo Brong Ahafo Regional Police Commander confirmed the story to GNA.

He said the suspects were arrested conveying 26 bales of the from a KIA truck into a tipper truck ready for Lawra in Upper West Region.

DCOP Ayalingo said on September 27, the Police at Wenchi had a tip off that a KIA truck with Indian hemp was parked in the bush at Kyingakrom and that the Hemp was to be transferred into a tipper truck.

He said that when policemen arrived at Kyingakrom they saw about eight men transferring the substance from the KIA truck into the tipper truck.

DCOP Ayalingo said the men fled into the bush but Duodo and Souno were arrested with the bales of Indian hemp.

He said the tipper truck, belonging to J. A. Quarry, has been impounded and the two suspects had been placed in police custody.
