DR.. ABBEY SPEAKS ON GHANA’S ECONOMY

The Director of the Centre for Policy Analysis Dr.. Abbey has said that one way to progress is for Ghana to integrate into the global economy through trade. He said the best way forward is to create an environment where people can be productive without undue interference from government institutions. Speaking at a seminar for economic journalists in Accra, Dr.. Abbey said, the role of such institutions should be in the efficient allocation of scarce resources and not in dictation to the market, like the fixing of interest rates. He said a market friendly environment with features of good governance, transparent rules and regulations and a level playing field will also attract capital and make it stay. Ghana must also work to make itself a tradable country offering comparable products at comparable prices. Dr.. Abbey also called on Ghanaians to develop the habit of saving. He said at least 25 percent of the National Income must be invested for growth of the economy. Dr.. Abbey cautioned that no economic problem is peculiar to Ghana. The government must therefore be ready to adopt good experiences from other places. End
