Dormaa-Ahenkro (B/A), Mar. 9, GNA – The Dormaa Local Council of Churches has presented two million cedis through the Dormaa District Social Welfare to two physically challenged persons in Dormaa Ahenkro. The Council gave 1.5 million cedis to Ms Augustina Agyeiwaa, whose eight-month-old baby boy, Kwasi Anderson, was born with twisted toes, while the second donation of 500,000 cedis went to Madam Rose Animah, wife of a blind ex-prisons officer, who is now a beggar. To help remove her husband from the streets, the Department of Social Welfare has trained Madam Animah in batik, tie and dye making and the donation is her seed capital.
Making the presentations, the Reverend Felix John Yeboah, Vice Chairman, said the Council was touched by the plight of the two families, especially the baby whose mother is also disabled. Rev. Yeboah, Pastor in-charge of the Assemblies of God in Dormaa explained that the Church’s obligation to provide spiritual and moral upliftment would remain unaccomplished, if the physical well being of the individual was ignored.
He commended the Dormaa District office of the Department of Social Welfare for its continued assistance to the physically challenged in the district and urged NGOs, identifiable groups and philanthropists to also offer assistance.
Miss Annie Kpedekpo, District Social Welfare Officer, commended the Council for its rapid response and expressed optimism that the donation would impact positively on the lives of the recipients.
