Don’t drag GPRTU into partisan politics – Eshun

Mankessim, (C/R), Nov. 11, GNA – Mr. Robert Kwesi Eshun, Central Regional Chairman of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) has called on members to desist from dragging the Union into partisan politics.

He said such attitudes could break their united front and endanger their resolve to build a dynamic Union in the region.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency at Mankessim after his re-election to serve another four-year term Mr Eshun said the GPRTU policy was to serve the government of the day but said that should not be used to align it to any particular political party. He appealed to the losing contestants to put the defeat behind them and place their experiences at the disposal of the new executive for effective administration.

The new chairman gave the assurance that his administration would not victimise persons who campaigned against him and extended an invitation to all to help build a viable union.

He expressed gratitude to the national executives who supervised the election, which was conducted by the officers of the Electoral Commission.

Mr. Eshun expressed concern about the increase in road accidents in the country of late and cautioned drivers to be careful when driving especially as the Christmas was approaching.

Mr. Eshun polled 82 votes to beat Mr. Kwame Kumah who had 59. Mr. Yahaya Amadu had 82 as against 60 votes for Mr. T.G. Wilberforce to become the Vice Chairman.

Mr. Albert Mensah polled 96 votes to beat Mr. Barima Anomafo who had 46 for the post of First Trustee.

Mr. Kobina Adam-Appiah obtained 93 votes, beating Mr. M.K. Tetteh’s 49 votes to become Second Trustee.
