Don’t allow political affiliations undermine community self-help spirit

Offinso (Ash), Feb. 3, GNA – Nana Asiedu Opoku, Kokotehene of Offinso has advised Ghanaians, especially residents of the rural communities not to allow political differences to undermine their self-help initiatives and unity.

He said development can only thrive in a peaceful, stable and united society and advised the citizens to come together and contribute meaningfully towards the improvement of the area.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency at Kokote, a suburb of Offinso on Wednesday, Nana Opoku, who is the Vice-Principal of Offinso Teacher Training College, advised religious bodies and other social groups to take keen interest in programmes that would not only unite the people but also instil discipline and moral values in the youth. He implored Offinso residents to support and assist the district assembly to rid the district capital of filth and other environmental hazards.

“A healthy environment is a pre-requisite and essential for the effective development of the society”, he said, and advised the residents to maintain clean environment.

Nana Opoku stressed the need for the communities to rekindle their self-help spirit and initiate programmes that would tremendously improve their social and economic standards.

The Kokotehene asked parents to spend less on funerals and other unproductive social activities and rather invest heavily in their children’s education.

He also advised parents to send their school-going age children to school and encourage them to at least obtain basic education.
