Abura-Dunkwa (C/R), Dec. 21, GNA-District assemblies are to be equipped with a tractor and a skid loader each to assist them in their waste management duties.
Mr Andrew K. Mensah, District Chief Executive for Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese, disclosed this at the third session of the Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese District Assembly at Abura-Dunkwa last Friday. Mr Mensah said the decision was taken by the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development and forms part of Central Government measures to control waste materials in urban towns in the country. He said part of the assemblies shares of the common fund would be used to procure the machines.
Mr Mensah said the Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese District Assembly has approved 750 million cedis for the implementation of some vital development projects in the area.
Of the amount, 365 million cedis would be used to complete the second phase of staff quarters currently under construction, 150 million cedis for the construction of Internet facility at Abura-Dunkwa and 134 million cedis for the construction of a three-classroom for the Junior Secondary School at Nyamedom.
He said the assembly had already advanced 73 million cedis to the contractor who is working on the access roads at Abura-Dunkwa, and urged the contractor to provide excellent work.
The D.C.E. expressed concern about the inability of the assembly to meet its revenue target of 155 million cedis for the year, and pointed out that the shortfall will affect the assembly’s desire to attract increment in its share of the common fund next year.
He said the assembly collected 106 million cedis out of the targeted 155 Million cedis, and charged all members of the house to be part of the revenue collection process and stop paying lip- service to the assembly.
Mr Maxwell K. Baidoo, the presiding member of the assembly drew the attention of members to next year’s presidential and parliamentary elections and urged members to contribute their quota to ensure peaceful electioneering campaign and elections to enable the country to protect and deepen its young democracy.
In their quarterly report, the executive committee of the assembly suggested among others, the establishment of an educational endowment fund to help promote basic education in the district. The district was registered among the poorly performing communities in the Central Region, during last year’s BECE examinations.
