THE AKUAPEM North District Chief Executive (DCE), Dr. Eugenia Danquah Quist, has observed that lack of good drinking water and toilet facilities in the area has led to outbreak of diseases such as malaria, tuberculosis, buruli ulcer and many more.
These diseases could be fatal, apart from being a drain on a worker’s pocket.
The DCE made this observation at the commissioning of a ?49 million self-sufficient bio-gas toilet facility at Apirede last weekend.
The facility is also a miniature treatment plant which checks other diseases like dysentery in addition to recycling waste products to produce energy for lighting bulbs, cookers etc.
Dr. Quist proposed that the youth be taught how to maintain public properties and how to behave in order not to put the destiny of the nation in jeopardy.
In order to draw public attention to the need to keep the environment clean, June 21 has been set aside as the district sanitation day to engage all communities in communal labour to keep their environment clean.
In a short speech, the Apiredehene, Nana Sarforo Okwampah, urged the government to fulfil the socio-economic promises it made to enable Ghanaians enjoy better life.
He expressed the hope that the district assembly will vigorously implement its policies and programmes to ensure good sanitation in the area.
