DG of GHS challenges health workers to strive for excellence

Kumasi, Oct. 28, GNA – Professor Agyemang Badu Akosah, Director-General of the Ghana Health Services (GHS) has challenged health workers to consistently strive to improve upon their output to help boost health care delivery in the country. He said, by so doing, they would not only win the confidence and trust of the people but also justify their constant demand for better conditions of Service.

Prof. Akosah was speaking at the annual Ashanti Regional and District Medical Superintendent’s Group of the GHS in Kumasi on Friday.

The conference, which was on the theme, 93Promoting Efficiency in the Hospital=94, aimed at building the capacity of Medical Superintendents to enable them to adhere to the efficient management of hospital resources and assets in facilitating health care delivery. It was also to seek the promotion of patient safety and reduction of medical errors at hospitals in the country. Prof. Akosah charged Medical Superintendents not to compromise their responsibilities but be committed to ensuring efficient supervision of their staff to avoid laxity in the discharge of their duties.

Such an effort, he said, was crucial to instilling discipline and adherence to patient safety regulations among health workers. Dr. (Mrs.) Charity Brako, President of the Medical Superintendent’s Group, Ghana, said in spite of the scarce resources at the disposal of most hospitals, health workers should endeavour to give off their best in the performance of their duties. She entreated her colleagues to continually explore avenues to upgrade their knowledge and managerial skills with the view to enhancing effective management and supervision of hospitals in the country.
