Day-old baby survives three days in bush

Apam (C/R Dec. 26, GNA – A baby abandoned in the bush by the mother has been rescued after three days by a passer-by who him crying. The mother, Sophia Aidoo, an 18-year-old JSS Three student of the Gomoa Oguda Methodist Junior Secondary School, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Apam Catholic Hospital that a driver impregnated her during the last Akwambo festival of the Chiefs and people of Gomoa Oguda.

She said that the driver left the town before she realised that she was pregnant, adding that, all attempts to trace him failed. Sophia who said that she was staying with her grandmother disclosed that she felt like easing herself and went into a nearby thicket and in the process delivered the baby but because she did not know what to do she left it there and went to tell her grandmother that she had had a miscarriage and thrown the foetus away.

When the grandmother realised that she was bleeding profusely she decided to send her to the hospital where she was admitted but on the third day the baby was discovered with soldier ants surrounding it and the baby was sent to the mother at the hospital. She accepted it and started breastfeeding the baby. Both mother and the baby are doing well.
