Crime goes down in Atwima-Nwabiagya and Mponua Districts

Crime went down by 17 percent in the Atwima-Nwabiagya and Mponua Districts last year, the Divisional Police Commander, Chief Superintendent Boakye Yiadom Afful, has said.

A total of 2,898 cases were recorded during the period compared with the previous year’s 2,245 cases.

These were mainly in the form of murders, fraud, theft, physical assaults, threats and road traffic offences and at the same time road accidents reduced to 179 from the year 2010 figure of 219.

Chief Superintendent Afful said this when speaking at the annual get-together (WASSA) held for officers and men of the division at Nkawie.

He spoke of their determination to work hard to bring down the crime rate to enable the law abiding people to enjoy their peace.

He said in line with this, they have intensified day and night patrols and are also encouraging the formation of neighbourhood watch committees in identified crime prone communities.

The Divisional Commander expressed appreciation to the two district assemblies for constructing a permanent structure to house the divisional headquarters at Abuakwa.

He appealed to the police officers to ensure high levels of professionalism and operate strictly within the confines of the law adding that they should not engage in any act likely to create problems for the police service.

Nana Asiama Poku Afrifa, Toasehene and Member of the Council of State, praised the police for the good job they were doing to maintain law and order in the society.
