Dr Onsy Nathan Nkrumah has been disqualified from contesting the flagbearer slot of the Convention People’s Party (CPP).
Dr Nkrumah, who claims to be a son of former President Kwame Nkrumah, was disqualified for not meeting the criteria and conditions for filing, according to General Secretary Nii Armah Akomfrah.
“He presented a fraudulent cheque and that was the basis [on which] the party disqualified him. The party required a banker’s draft or cash; he presented a cheque. We worked around it, we tried to find a way, and in the end we could not admit him because there was no sufficient fund to be able to admit him,” Mr Akomfrah explained.
Meanwhile the party will start vetting four presidential aspirants from Tuesday January 12, 2016.
Daughter of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, Samia Nkrumah; former General Secretary, Ivor Greenstreet; legal practitioner Bight Akwetey; and businessman Joseph Agyapong, are contesting to lead the party into the November polls.
Mr Akomfrah told Class News the vetting process could continue till the end of the week.
“The vetting report will be submitted to the Central Committee. Barring any incident against the four who have filed, they will be vying for the candidacy of the party on January 30.”
