Court withdraws arrest warrant against Water resources minister

The Ho High court which issued an arrest warrant against the Water Resources Works Housing minister has withdrawn and canceled the case.

The warrant which ordered the Inspector General of Police to arrest Dr. Kwaku Agyemang-Mensah and produce him in court sparked controversy as it appeared the first time a court had issued such an order against a minister of state.

The court issued the warrant after the minister repeatedly failed to make himself available to respond to charges against him before the court.

The plaintiffs in the matter claimed that the Minister and the Director of the Water Resources Ministry, Alhaji Ziblim Yakubu, as well as, Director of Hydrological Services, Mr. Owusu Ansah, who were acting as supervisors of the Ada Sea Defence Project caused the destruction of their land and property.

But Justice Patrick Bayerh Friday dismissed the contempt charges against the minister and two directors of the ministry after one of the defendants, Dredging International, secured a stay of execution against the high court’s order at the Appeals court in Koforidua.

Starr News’ Volta regional correspondent Lambert Atsivor who was in court today reported that the judge initially requested to see the minister before the case was spiked out.

“The judge wanted to see the minister but the state attorney told him that the minister was outside the country for an emergency meeting on drugs”.
