Mankranso (Ash), Oct. 17, GNA – A magistrate’s court at Mankranso on Thursday remanded a 44-year-old farmer for threatening to kill another farmer.
Alhassan Bartholomew pleaded not guilty to the charge and will re-appear on October 26.
Police Inspector Edwin Dei-Offei told the court that the Goaso District Forest Service Division of the Forestry Commission allocated portions of the degraded forest to interested farmers on a Taunja basis, which involved the planting of trees to replace the degraded part of the forest alongside food crops.
He said Alhassan and the complainant Anthony Kwadwo Amponsah of Nyameadom village in the Ahafo-Ano North District benefited from the exercise.
Inspector Dei-Offei said in August this year, the accused went to the complainant’s farm and harvested some of his food crops, went back to Nyameadom and threatened the complainant that he would kill him if he stepped on the farm again since the land belonged to him. He said Alhassan threatened the complainant in the presence of Kwabena Ntim and Kwadwo Amofa and together they reported the case to the Tepa police who arrested Alhassan and after investigations charged him with the offence.
