Court remands armed robber

A Tarkwa Circuit Court has remanded into prison custody, a 25 year-old galamsey operator for allegedly conspiring with three others to rob a small scale miner of his black gold concentrate valued at GHC30,000.00.

The accused person, Ben Yakubu pleaded not guilty to both charges and would re-appear on January 21, 2016.

Police Detective Chief Inspector Oscar Amponsah told the court that the complainant, David Asante, is a small scale miner at Gyedua-Kese, near Agona Amenfi and lives in the same neighbourhood with the accused person.

He said on October 1, around 0640 hours, while the complainant and his colleagues were on their mining site prospecting for gold, the accused person and his accomplices, attacked them with guns and made away with their black gold concentrate.

The Prosecution said on that same day, the complainant and his colleagues arrested Yakubu from his hideout at Gyedua-Kese, and handed him over to the Agona Amenfi police.

He said Yakubu’s accomplices who escaped with the black gold concentrate have gone into hiding.

Detective Amponsah said the accused person admitted the offence in his caution statement, and he mentioned John, Peter and Larry as his accomplices.
