Court remand chain saw operator

A 37-year-old chainsaw operator, Stephen Akwasi, has been remanded into prison custody for two weeks by a Half Assini magistrate court on a provisional charge of murder.

The accused, whose plea was not taken, allegedly killed one Degbe Agbedefu.

The court presided over by Mr. Abdul Majid Iliasu ordered him to reappear on Novmber 6.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector, Emmanuel O. Kumi said on October 20 the accused went to Ebonloa bush with the deceased to fell trees.

He said they began with one tree with two stems. One was felled with the assistance of the deceased and while the other one was being felled the deceased took cover behind a tree.

But when the second tree was falling some of its branches touched the tree behind which the deceased had taken cover and it fell on him.

He said as the accused could not rescue him alone he ran to the village to seek help but when he was pulled out he had died.

The prosecutor said the accused was arrested and following his admission of the offence.
