Accra, Aug. 15, GNA – A District Magistrate’s Court Registrar, who allegedly manufactured his own stamps and succeeded in embezzling monies belonging to the Judicial Service, was on Monday admitted to a 50 million-cedi bail when he appeared before a Circuit Court in Accra. Daniel Nimo, the Registrar, who was charged with forgery, stealing and committing other offences relating to the manufacturing of stamps, pleaded not guilty.
On August 8, when Nimo made his first appearance, the Court remanded him into prison custody to reappear on Monday. The case as narrated by the Prosecution was that on July 20, 2005, a Witness in the case filed Letters of Administration and paid 400,000 cedis as filing fees but the accused refused to issue her with a receipt.
The Witness suspected foul play and lodged a complaint with the Judicial Service and the Chief Justice ordered investigations into the matter.
The Prosecution said the case was reported to the Police and on August 2, Nimo surrendered himself to the Police.
The Prosecution said investigations revealed that Nimo had made his own stamp, which he used, in transacting business on behalf of the Judicial Service and between October 1, 2003 and July 20, 2005, he had succeeded in embezzling 11.170 million cedis.
