Court jails Amidu Ishaque for stealing

Sekondi Nov.9 -GNA-A Sekondi Circuit Court on Tuesday sentenced Amidu Ishaque, a 28-year old employee of the Takoradi-based Tropical Gas Company, to eight years imprisonment in hard labour for stealing 18.1 million cedis belonging to his employer. He was convicted on his own plea.

Baba Issah, a 58-year old watchman of the Company who was jointly charged with the accused pleaded not guilty to abetment of crime and was granted 20 million cedis bail and to re-appear on November 23.

Prosecuting, Police Inspector Kumah Mensah, said at about 0830 hours on November 1, 2004, Nana Siriboe, the Managing Director of the Company gave Ishaque the money to deposit at Ecobank in Takoradi.

He said Ishaque conspired with Issah and diverted the money. Inspector Mensah said Ishaque later informed Nana Siriboe that the money had vanished into thin air.

He said the Manager did not believe the story and made a report to the Police leading to the arrest of Ishaque.

Inspector Mensah said during interrogation, Ishaque mentioned Issah as an accomplice.
