Court fines student for eloping with a minor

The Half Assini District magistrate court has imposed a fine of 600.00 Ghana Cedis on a 19-year-old final year student of the Annor Adjaye Senior High School at Ezinlibo for having affairs with a minor and attaching himself with a woman he had not married.

Jacob Quaicoe pleaded guilty.

He will go to prison for 12 months if he fails to pay the fine.

The court presided over by Mr. Hans Kofi Kpogo bonded him to be of good behaviour for 12 months or six months imprisonment with hard labour in default.

Police chief Inspector Franklin Selby told the court that the complainant in the case was Madam Agatha Dompra from Mangyea near Half Assini.

The prosecution said the woman claimed that, in January, she had information that Quaicoe had taken her daughter as his wife and taken her to his hometown, Enchi in the Awoin District.

He said the 16-year-old JHS two student abandoned her education and followed the boy to Enchi.

The prosecution said on March 3 she again had information that her daughter had been seen with Quaicoe at Half Assini.

He said the woman came down to Half Assini and reported to the police who arrested Quaicoe.
