Corn miller jailed 10 years for defilement

Tema, July 29, GNA- An 18-year-old corn miller at Ashaiman who befriended a 14-year-old JSS pupil, impregnated her and attempted to abort it has been jailed for 10 years by the Tema circuit court ‘A’. Daniel Kabutey pleaded guilty to defilement and attempted abortion. Police Chief Inspector Mary Assunta told the court that about five months ago the accused befriended the girl and in the course of the friendship she became pregnant.

She said on July 18, this year, the accused gave her a concoction made up of malt, a lot of sugar, lemon juice and eight tablets of paracetamol to terminate the pregnancy.

After taking the concoction the girl experienced serious abdominal pains and later sent to hospital.
