Collins Dauda inspects Kumasi Kejetia project

Works of phase one at the Kumasi Kejetia project is progressing steadily after three months of start of work.

The phase one of the project includes an ultra-modern market with 5,000 shops, a clinic, a police station, a social and recreational centre, ICT centre and a post office, a fire post, banks and a daycare centre and being built at the cost of $ 298 million.

Alhaji Collins Dauda, Minister of Local Government and Rural Development together with the Deputy Chief of Staff, Mr John Osei Kofi and Kumasi Metropolitan Chief Executive, Mr Kojo Bonsu inspected the project on Wednesday to access the progress of works at the site.

The Minister said he was happy at the progress of work and expressed gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama for the project.

He said the completion of the phase one of the project would give the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly the opportunity to move the traders from the Kumasi Central Market where the phase two of the project would be constructed.

Alhaji Dauda noted that the issue of fire outbreaks in our markets are unacceptable and that the construction of the Kumasi central market would solve the problem.

He said he was convinced that with the volume of work carried out so far, the contractor would finish the first phase ahead of the project scheduled time.

Alhaji Dauda acknowledged the hard work of the contractor and thanked the traders for their understanding and cooperation with the contractors.

Mr Carlos Gala, Project Manager of the new Kejetia and Central Market said the project foundation is completed while the structure is 20 per cent complete.

He said the only problem being anticipated to slow the work is the raining season.
