Some Communities along coastal Accra have secured a Court injunction against the Mayor’s scheduled demolition of their shacks and shanty structures.
They ran to the Court after Oko Vanderpuije earmarked their homes for destruction, as a measure towards controlling the spread of cholera in the Greater Accra region, which has, alone, recorded more than 10,000 cases and over 100 deaths.
According to the Mayor, the disease is being festered by insanitary conditions in the coastal slums.
A similar demolition exercise took place at Mensah Guinea, one of the coastal slums, a few weeks ago.
However, Nii Otenkorang Ankrah, Spokesperson for the two communities at Osu Klottey near the Castle, former seat of the presidency, says they do not understand why the Mayor is picking on them.
Ankrah wondered on private FM station, Joy, why Vanderpuije is not pulling down structures along the coasts of Labadi and James Town, where he claims more than 1,300 people have been affected by cholera.
